AKWA IBOM STATE BECAME THE HIGHEST PETROLEUM-BEARING STATE IN NIGERIA IN 1990s
1993: Akwa Ibom State was officially recognized as the largest oil-producing state in Nigeria, following the re-appraisal of oil reserves and production levels.
Prior to 1993, Rivers State held the position. However, with the discovery of new oil fields and increased investment in the region, Akwa Ibom State's oil production surged.
